Kwara Beach Soccer Patron, Chairman commend Gov, as league kicks off in Ilorin

    The Kwara Pillar of Sports and Patron of the Kwara State Beach Soccer Association, Sir (Prince) Oladimeji Ladi Thompson has commended the state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for raising the bar in sports development in the state.

    Prince Oladimeji, while inspecting the Beach Soccer pitch at the Kwara State Stadium Complex on Monday, ahead of the commencement of the 2022 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) season, scheduled to kick off in Ilorin tomorrow Wednesday.

    The former Chairman of Kwara United Football Club also commended the State Sports Commission, under the leadership of Mallam Bola Mogaji and other stakeholders, for supporting the cause, which he says, will boost the profile of the state in sports development.

    Prince Oladimeji, who also met with Kwara players and officials in company of the Chairman of the Association in the state, Alhaji Abdullateef Adebowale Adedeji charged the players to put in their best, and be good ambassadors of the state.

    The Chairman commended the players and their officials for the preparation, adding that everything will be done to motivate them to win the competition.

    Adedeji said that 10 clubs and over one hundred players and officials across the country, will converge in Ilorin for the league.

    He added that the conducive atmosphere created by the present administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq earned the state the hosting right back to back, urging government and other stakeholders to assist the State’s Beach Soccer family to stage a befitting competition.

    He said that apart from the state hosting the competition; it will further promote socio-economic activities of the Stadium Community, and enhance its revenue base.

    Also present at the gathering, the former Director of Sports, Mallam Tunde Kazeem commended the association and the players, for hosting the competition, even as he charged the players to win the competition.

    The competition begins tomorrow, with the draws, as the association is also expected to brief the press on the modalities and prizes at stake.

     The General Assembly of Nigeria Beach Soccer Association (NBSA), during its 2021 Annual General Assembly retained the format of four rounds across four different centres, including the epic Super Final event to be staged in Kaduna City for the second time.

    The first round of the league will be staged in Ilorin, Kwara State, beginning on February 23, and ending with matchday three fixtures on February 26, 2022.

    The second round comes up in Lagos, from March 16 to 19, 2022, while Kebbi State will host the third round from May 4 to 7 before the finals in Kaduna at the newly built Beach Soccer Stadium, from June 1 to 4, 2022.

    The NBSA secretariat announced that ten clubs have enrolled to participate in the upcoming second edition of the NSBL season – two more than the eight (8) teams involved in the inaugural edition held in 2021.

    The registered clubs are the defending champions Kebbi BSC, Kwara State BSC, Kada BSC, and Lagos trio of Badagry BS Warriors, Igbogbo Kingdom BSC and Smart City BSC.

    New entrants are Nmanko BSC of Pategi, Galaxy Sports Academy of Benue, Niger State BSC and the old horse Kogi Confluence BSC.

    Kebbi Beach Soccer Club won the maiden edition of the Nigerian Beach Soccer League title amidst an entertaining atmosphere after beating Kada Beach Soccer Club in a 4-3 extra-time win at the Kaduna Beach Soccer Stadium in July 2021.
