The Founder and Matron of Kwara female football team, Abruka Queens, Hajia Segilola Alaya has praised the Super Falcons for sustaining the tradition of picking the Women World Cup ticket, and also progressing to the semi-final of the ongoing WAFCON in Morocco.
The Super Falcons yesterday defeated the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon by a lone goal to qualify for the semi-final of the WAFCON, which also serves as the qualifiers for the Women World Cup championship.
The only goal was scored by Atletico Madrid of Spain forward, Rasheedat Ajibade in the 57th minute.
Speaking after the victory, Hajia Alaya, who is also the Chairperson, Female Football Development Committee of the Kwara State Football Association commended the team for the feat, believing that they can go ahead and win their 10th WAFCON title.
“You have displayed enough maturity and resilience, especially after the first game against South Africa, which you lost. That you have reached the semi-final means you can win it again, against all odds.
“You must also be commended specially, for sustaining the tradition of been among the only six countries, in the class of USA, Germany, Brazil and Japan, that have played in every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals since the championship was launched in China in 1991.
Hajia Alaya equally commended the Leader of Delegation, Aisha Falode for her motherly role and leadership qualities, which, according to her, has continued to make positive difference.
“Aisha Falode has not only brought innovation into the domestic league, the result of which we are witnessing now, but has displayed the qualities of a good leader anywhere, any day.
“For the Falcons, you have crossed the first hurdle. We urge you to re-double your efforts ahead of the two other hurdles, especially the semi-final match against the host, Morocco”, she added.
