As the Super Eagles continues to battle with inconsistency in goalkeeping department, Kwara United Goalkeeper Trainer, Alao Olaniyi believes the former national team goalkeeper, Bamidele Aiyenugba has the potentials to fix the problems, despite his age.

Kwara United goalkeeper and Captain, Aiyenugba, now 39, still has very sharp reflexes, and his agility is not in doubt, as he has brought his experience to bear on the Ilorin-based team, says Olaniyi.

Olaniyi, who had worked with teams like Sunshine Stars, during their continental campaign and Kogi United before joining Kwara United also added that a number of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) goalkeepers have the potentials to do well in national colours.

According to him, “I told Aiyenugba that he still has the ability and capacity to wear the national colours, because, going by my observations on him, and considering what is happening in the Super Eagles, he has the experience over others.

“When I resumed with Kwara United, I met five goalkeepers, and the role he is playing in the team in terms of stability, and his efforts at the goalkeeping department is tremendous, as he is still wonderful to watch within the sticks.

The former Haifa Tel Aviv safe hands has been with Kwara United since returning from Israel, and instrumental to the club’s good run, culminating in their return to the continent after 15 years.

Olaniyi also added that apart from having the experience to be in goal, other upcoming goalkeepers have a lot to learn from him.

”Aiyenugba is no doubt, a role model and disciplined player. And despite his age, he still competes for shirt with other young players in the team, especially for crucial matches.
