Team Ncheson wins late Oseni Olanrewaju Kwara All-Stars Football tournament


There was nothing short of excitement on Saturday when the final of the late Alhaji Oseni Olanrewaju Kwara All Stars football tournament took the centre stage at the Kwara Football Academy pitch.

The football fiesta, which usually involves four different teams of the Kwara All-Stars family is an annual event aimed at celebrating the late community leader and philanthropist, late Alhaji Oseni Olanrewaju.

Team Ncheson proved quite classical when they defeated Team Socrates 2-1 to win the coveted trophy at the final encounter which lived up to its billing.

Speaking at the well-attended event, the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji commended the Olanrewaju’s for upholding the legacy of their late Patriarch.

“I would like to commend this family for exemplifying unity and for sustaining it. We are proud of your support for this competition and we believe that Alhaji Olanrewaju’s legacy will continue to live on” said the Executive Chairman, who also lauded the All Star family.

In his own remarks, the President of the Kwara All Stars, Alhaji Idris Ahmed (SMO) thanked the family for sponsoring the competition.

He noted that the tournament has taken a pole position in uniting ex-footballers together from the nooks and crannies of the country.

Earlier on Saturday, a special prayer was held in honour of late Olanrewaju, who in his lifetime was a renowned supporter of football at the grassroots level.

Meanwhile, one of the sons of the late business mogul, Taofeeq Olanrewaju has heaped praises on all the stakeholders and Sportspro News for their efforts towards the success of the event.

In another interesting show, Team Murmed had earlier edged Team Dickalo to win the third place match of the competition.

Among many other dignitaries at the event which was graced by both ranks and files of the Olanrewaju’s was the former Nigerian International, Mutiu Adepoju (MON) former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Coach Amusa Adisa and a host of others.
